Central Market caters! The Central Market Catering Menu features selections made from the finest ingredients from each of our fresh departments. Choose from scratch-baked breads, scones and desserts from our bakery, fine meats and cheeses from our international deli, and several of our chef-prepared favorites, made fresh daily and custom-plattered to your specifications.

The bolded text can be found word for word on the market website. That's copyright violation in my book. Ckamaeleon 05:53, 14 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Advertising

[edit]

The entire article appears to be an advertisement for the chain. While there might be some encyclopedic value to mentioning a gourmet grocery sub-chain, the article as it stands seems little more than a copy of the store's web site. Dpv 11:44, 6 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Cleaned up

[edit]

Article revised extensively to be more informative than advertising Clipper471 15:50, 12 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The article seems to have been pushed back to the state it was in Mar 27 by User:Mlhathaway (Talk), undoing what you had done. I'm not looking to start a war of reversion, so I'm waiting a bit, but we're back to the more advertising than encyclopedic end of the scale. Dpv 21:09, 19 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I reverted the edits. Clipper471 01:39, 20 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I Did a Comprehensive Cleanup

[edit]

I am a passionate fan of the Central Market stores, but the article I found here was nothing more than a company written advertisement, instead of an informative article about the chain. I removed content and revised what remains to reflect what other supermarket articles look like here on Wikipedia. Aaronproot

I restored much of what was deleted by Aaronproot. I disagree with his unsolicited decision to remove much of what was added. While some of the content may have been written in a way that promoted the grocer, it is information that directly relates to its operations. Clipper471 02:29, 5 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Whole Foods wasn't upscale until the late 1990s (sometime after they went public in 1992). Trader Joe's is not upscale to this day. Neither did Central Market's original concept begin as upscale. Clipper471 02:46, 5 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
What would you say to dropping the locations? I'm not sure they are relevant to an encyclopedia user. Shoppers can go look at the store's website. I'd hate to have the Wal-Mart article try to list all of their locations. Even nationally known stores like Whole Foods Market and Tiffany & Co. don't list their locations. (I know Neiman Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue do list their locations, but I don't think that makes sense either.) Dpv 13:22, 5 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I agree. We shouldn't include Central Market's locations in this article. jareha (comments) 23:23, 5 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I think the locations should stay. Considering there are only seven stores and that they are descriptive, it makes more sense to keep it than to delete it. Whole Foods doesn't have locations, but they have SO MANY locations that none are unique to one another (except the new flagship) like each Central Market location is. It's also a history of the chain. I've been exhaustively researching Joske's, Titche-Goettinger, and Frost Bros. historical locations to no avail. It would be interesting to complete that task for similar reasons. Clipper471 01:16, 6 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • I think this article is bordering on inappropriate and the locations section really pushes it over the edge. Giving those specific addresses is an advertisement for Central Market, and that is not the point of Wikipedia. Aaronproot
  • I agree, the article still reads a lot like an advertisement. I'm deleting the list of stores and replacing it with line of prose saying how many stores they have. Johntex\talk 01:12, 8 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Anual Events

[edit]

What do these mean with respect to the store? Do the employees dress up in cosutme? Is the store closed? open late? Do they give out prizes? A list of "annual events" is not very helpful without context. Johntex\talk 01:16, 8 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I believe these should be further expanded. I agree listing these without an explanation is not informative. Clipper471 02:53, 8 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use image

[edit]

I've removed the fair use image since it is substantially the same as the free image we have here - they both just show the outside of a store. If anyone wants to explain how the fair use image is directly related to the article and why it shows something of significance not provided by the free picture, please add it back. Locations

[edit]

If locations are taboo, the department store articles require massive deletions (the Macy's divisions especially). Sorry to see information deleted. Here, I revised the History section to include the dates Central Market opened the stores. I think since the chain is small and focuses on each location, this information is at least worthy re-written as is. Identifying the streets of the stores further reveals the geographic location relative to the city center. Thanks. Clipper471 02:52, 8 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
